Ask counsel which facts matter
Michigan custody decisions turn on the child’s best interests under state law. An investigator does not decide custody or whether a court will accept particular evidence. An attorney can identify which facts matter to your case and whether independent documentation is worthwhile.
Keep the scope specific
A focused assignment might document a disputed event or check an available record relevant to a question counsel has identified. Share a factual timeline and any applicable court orders with counsel. Do not recruit a child to collect information or try to access another person’s devices or accounts.
Choose safety over documentation
If someone is in immediate danger, call 911. For nonemergency matters, do not confront the other party or change a court-ordered arrangement based on a general guide. Ask your attorney about lawful next steps.
