Match the evidence to the question
Potential sources include relevant public records, voluntary interviews and observations made lawfully. In a disputed timeline, for example, a dated record or a witness with firsthand knowledge may be more useful than a collection of unsourced screenshots.
Ask for documentation you can check
A useful report separates direct observations from what others said and from the investigator’s interpretation. Ask how dates, sources, original files and relevant gaps will be recorded. Preserve original files and avoid editing or annotating your only copy.
A finding is not a ruling
A report does not guarantee that evidence is admissible or that a court will accept a particular conclusion. If litigation is possible, let your attorney define the questions that matter and advise on evidence preservation, disclosure and use.
